Rare Fansite Closes Doors After Studio Declines to Participate in Documentary

One of the largest Rare fansites on the web has closed its doors following an attempt at one last hurrah. The site MundoRare pitched a fanmade documentary to Rare, but were reportedly denied by the studio’s PR for not being on message.

Calling it their “most ambitious project to date,” the site had planned an hour long documentary to be shot on location in England. It would have encompassed the studio’s 25 years of history and distributed for free via the Internet and Xbox Live, but Rare ultimately declined to participate.

The website expressed confusion over Rare’s decision in their farewell message, “Despite its ambitious scope, we felt it was an irresistible offer. In fact, we are still puzzled over their response. It was a risk-free operation to be carried away with all legal safety measures deemed necessary and full of good intentions. “
